Square Telescopic Tubing in Metric Sizes

Telescopic Tubing

Parker Steel now offers square carbon steel, telescopic tubing. Overall, telescopic tubing is a more precise tube with a much better tolerance than standard square tubing. The tighter tolerance allows another tube or another solid shape to slide inside the tube without any problems. Generally with standard square tubing, a combination of the weld bead and the tolerance won’t allow or guarantee anything to slide inside the tube consistently. The tolerance on a standard square tube is a plus or minus tolerance. However, with telescopic tubing, the tolerance is plus nothing, minus and the weld bead is removed, therefore allowing a smoother, more consistent inside and tighter tolerance inside the tube.

We have recently purchased Marvel © programmable high production vertical band saw, in order to serve more of our customers metric metal needs. This new automatic saw is capable of performing single or high volume production cuts.
The Marvel© saw is able to cut any length pieces and has miter cutting capabilities. It is an automatically operated PC controlled machine, with variable vice pressure, allowing thin wall tubing to be cut as well. We can cut your metric sized bars and tubes from 6mm. to 220 mm. in diameter and beams up to 400mm. in height.

Consolidation in the Steel Industry

More consolidation is going on in the steel industry. This week at the Sheraton Hotel in Buenos Aires, steel leaders from around the world are meeting for the 40th International Iron and Steel Institute Congress. It was mentioned at the meeting that U.S. Steel is a target. Posco, South Korea's biggest producer, is on a buying binge and promises to double their capacity in the next couple of years by purchasing undervalued mills outside of their home country. Could it be that the icon of our countries industrial may soon be in the hands of Korean industrialists?

Parker will be able to offer you production cutting at competitive prices. Length tolerance will be plus / minus 0.4 millimeters ( +/- 0.16”). We will be able to cut bars, tubes and structural shapes up to 508mm x 635mm ( 20” x 25”). In addition to vertical cuts of 90 degrees and miter cuts of 45 degrees we can offer you any angle up to 60 degrees. This saw will be operational in December 2006. Steel Scrap prices are collapsing, did you cash in big?.

If you had read and acted on our July 12th blog you would have made out very well. Within the next two weeks had you sold your scrap steel as we had advised then you would have made your company 27% more on the steel scrap you sold than you would than you would if you sold today.

On July 12th we advised you on our blog site to sell your scrap steel right away. We said then that “Now is a great time to sell your excess metal scrap. Steel scrap composite prices is $248.75 per ton based on number one heavy melting steel in Pittsburg and Chicago. Steel scrap is selling for more money per ton than any time in history for a summer month”.

Our advise was that you must sell you scrap now. Within five weeks of that July 12th date the price of steel scrap crashed 27 percent to $195.83 per ton. On a $100,000 sale of scrap you would have reaped a huge $27,000 more on the sale than had you waited until this week to sell. New Sizes of Stainless Steel C.D. Flat 304

Parker Steel has ordered from its mill suppliers, 29 additional sizes of Stainless Steel metric size cold drawn flats in type 304 to its inventory. Sizes added are for the larger flats such as 150mm x 10mm and 70mm x 30mm. The bars should arrive in stock in October and November of this year. The firm also stocks cold drawn stainless steel flats in type 316 and 303. New at Parker Steel are cold drawn alloy 4140 annealed square bars. In Europe grade is known as 42CrMo4 and in Japan as SCM 440. We have the largest selection of this item anywhere. Sizes start at 6 millimeters and go up to 50mm from flat to flat. Alloy 4140 squares produce a product with superior depth hardness; wear resistance, excellent toughness coupled with good ductility and the ability to resist stress at higher temperatures. This is the most popular alloy in North America. And can achieve a tensile strength of 130,000 phis after heat treating. We stock these Bars in lengths from 10 to 13 feet long. This is an oil hardening steel. The chromium content provides good hardness penetration and the molybdenum imparts uniformity, hardness and high strength.

Silver Steel

Parker Steel is proud to announce that we will soon have in a full range of ground and polished round metric size of alloy steel grade E-52100. In Europe this grade is known as silver steel. This is a high carbon chromium alloy steel that has been produced in an electric furnace. The carbon content is about 1 per cent and contains about 1.5 percent chromium.

News from Parker Steel.
For the first time we are now stocking a large range of metric size copper electrolytic tough pitch round bars. This product is almost pure copper, containing a minimum of 99.9% copper. The European grade is E-Cu57 and is comparable to CDA (Copper Development Association) grade 110. This is typically used in electrical applications such as bus bars, electrical contacts, switches and terminals. Its electrical conductivity is 101% IACS @ 68 degrees Fahrenheit. It is now ready for prompt shipment from our metric metals warehouse
